About the Artist:
Alain J. Picard is an award-winning artist, instructor, author and speaker. His acclaimed pastel and oil paintings have been exhibited throughout the U.S., Europe, China and the U.K.. Alain travel internationally as an art instructor, demonstrator, speaker and artistic advocate for the vulnerable. Alain’s work and writing have been featured on numerous occasions in such publications as The Artist’s Magazine, The Pastel Journal, and Practique des Arts. In an effort to share his passion for art, Alain has has written three instructional books, including “Mastering Pastel” and “Beginning Drawing”, and stars in a growing collection of instructional art videos. Alain has lectured and demonstrated for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Arts Club in New York City, Vose Galleries in Boston, MA, the IAPS Convention in Albuquerque, NM, and the Biennial International Pastel Art Exhibition at Ming Gallery in Suzhou, China. Alain has garnered top awards in esteemed exhibitions, including the Pastel Society of America, The American Artists Professional League, Hudson Valley Art Association, the Portrait Society of America, and the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS). He is a judge and juror of international exhibitions, and a sought-after portrait artist and landscape painter. He makes his home in Connecticut with his wife and two sons.

"Winter's Magic, Tucquan Glen" by Glenn E. Blue
Artist Glenn E. Blue
Glenn E. Blue grew up in a family of artists in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. His parents were art teachers at local schools, so he learned art at a very early age. By his teenage years Glenn was selling paintings professionally. Glenn was in the US Navy from 1984 to 1988, and then entered the Pennsylvania State Police.
For many years he was assigned to the Violent Felony Fugitive Task Force in Philadelphia. Glenn served his last few years as a supervisor in Criminal Investigations. He spent many days rushing home from crime scenes to get to his studio or art opening. He is now retired from the State Police to pursue art. Last month on October 2nd, 2016 Glenn was a front page story of the Reading Eagle Newspaper’s about the Amish school shooting. Glenn has trained in fine arts and shown in countless local, regional, national and international shows. He has travelled to numerous places in Europe painting and collecting art. Glenn has taken many workshops and private lessons over 35 years. He has given lectures to artist groups and college classes and has been a judge of many art exhibitions.
Over the years his paintings have been in top watercolor exhibitions, such as; the American Watercolor Society International Juried Exhibition 2014, the National Art for the Parks Top 100, Paint The Parks, Paint America, the Pennsylvania (PWS) and Philadelphia Watercolor Society’s Annual Juried Exhibitions. Glenn was awarded the PWS Sylvan Grouse Guild Award, available to PWS signature members that earn a high number of points by winning awards at the annual juried exhibitions.
Glenn had a painting published in the nationally known Watercolor Artist magazine, December 2014 edition, listed as the “Top Art of 2014”.
His works have been shown in several galleries and he has been the subject of many newspaper articles. He often has paintings on display in the Chadds Ford Gallery, in Chadds Ford, PA.
Glenn paints loose glowing impressionistic yet representational watercolors on his many plein air-painting trips as well in his studio. He attempts to artistically represent his subjects without every detail described.
Laura Lyn Stern and her mosaic panels, tiles and jewelry have been savored by guests at the Art is Inn's Holiday Show for two years and requests for this workshop have come to fruition! We want students to get a great overview of of the world of abstract mosaics. All levels of students welcome.
Students will be guided in creating an abstract contemporary mosaic on an 8"x 8" wood substrate panel. Students will use a variety of traditional and non-traditional mosaic materials and processes to design and make their own mosaic panel using ceramic tile, stained glass and glass tile, slate, beads and found objects.
Laura Lyn Stern a Philadelphia based mosaic artist will begin with an overview of of samples of abstract mosaic art pieces created by contemporary artists. Techniques specific to cutting and setting tesserae will be covered along with the use of various adhesives.

Join us for a session of life drawing to be held WEDNESDAY 3/7/18 from 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm with model Zinn Star. Artists are sure to be able to locate anatomic reference points on Zinn. Sessions will begin with a series of short poses and progress to longer poses. Parkland Art League Members will receive a 20% discount.
Lucienne Rappaport will take you on a creative journey exploring color in a variety of expression using mixed media. Students will experience acrylic ink, gel mediums and pasteas well as water colors on canvas, yupo and watercolor paper. Topics covered prior to your immersion in creative play include color theory, composition, value, hard and soft edges and movement in your picture. The $125 fee includes all materials, a light lunch and plenty of one on one instruction with this fascinating artist. The highlight for many is the session wrap up with a critique of student work. This is a hands-on workshop for intermediate to advanced students using modern mosaic techniques to understand realism in design, composition and color theory including: structure, cross contour, highlights, gradation, value and types of shadows using high quality stained glass. Attention will be given to contemporary andamento to develop a modern design. Instruction will be given to aid you in learning how to evaluate your own work and to self-critique to help you to the next level of creativity. You will conquer obstacles of your creative struggles.
