Cecile Houel "Four Step Method for Likelike Pastel Portrait and Landscape Paintings"

  • Art is Inn 9868 Weiss Road Breinigsville, PA, 18031 United States (map)

The Pastel Program

Conducted by Cecile Houel using a step by step process. Cecile has been teaching pastel for many years and has learned a lot about explaining the process of creating a painting and helping students to reach their goals by the end of each class.

The challenge is to learn rather than to think that you are going to create the perfect painting...Painting is not easy and it takes time and training to reach a professional level.

Cecile has found it essential to demonstrate in a step by step process:

1) Sketch in charcoal in 3 values

2) Advanced sketch in 3 values in 1 color (an underlayer)

3) Paint with all the colors, interpretation

4) The magic of the eyes and how to do the background, finish the painting.

She has over 200 students in France and the USA. "They are very faithful, and that's the best compliment I could ever receive. I have the feeling they are learning with enthusiasm and joy and always progressing...If I can give you the same feeling, then I am accomplishing my mission: to share my experience of this wonderful pastel technique. "

The pastel session will begin with a demonstration painting  from 8:45 am until 9:45 am.

Students will then begin sketching their subject and will have plenty of "easel time" with Cecile to create a lifelike painting.

After a light lunch, (provided) students will continue with their painting using their reference photos of their choice. The plan is for portrait instruction for 2 days and then to relax a bit with  landscape instruction. However the subject matter is up to the students. Cecile wants each person to meet their personal objectives in this workshop.
